Description:
This course exposes students to the perspectives and techniques of demography, the scientific study of population, with simultaneous attention to global health. As such, it focuses on the analysis of population structure and dynamics overall, as well as on fertility, mortality, and migration with a particular eye to how all of these factors relate to global health and socioeconomic development. For example, the course explores the relationship between population growth and sustainable development, the influence of family planning programs on maternal and child health, the main drivers of mortality and morbidity in the global South, and the particular health needs faced by migrants.
